Unity in the Community · Transparency Through Glass

By Louise Irvine

Chelsea Rousso installed her Unity in the Community glass wall at WMODA in December, and it was great fun deliberating on the best arrangement for the glass symbols on the wall to the new Hot Glass Gallery. It was a double celebration as Chelsea was awarded another grant from the Broward Cultural Division to continue her brilliant glass project in 2024.

The concept of unity is embodied in the stunning glass wall now at WMODA. The installation features over 100 glass symbols made by members of the local community and artfully arranged by Chelsea Rousso, glass artist, fashion designer and teacher. This inspirational glass project demonstrates the joys of making art together, united by a common goal. Led by Chelsea, the participants shared a creative journey of glass fusion, which also fused their artistic spirits as they reflected on their thoughts and visions of Unity in the Community.

With the support of the Broward Cultural Division, Chelsea initiated a series of workshops at various local venues, including WMODA, for the community to discover glass art. Most of Chelsea’s students had not worked with glass before, but with her nurturing, expert teaching, and encouragement from their teammates, they made their icons of unity. Chelsea fired the fused glass artworks in her studio kiln and brought them all together for this brilliant community installation symbolizing Transparency Through Glass.
