Experiment with colors and scents to capture the essence of summer at our family-focused Candle & Wax Melt workshop. Surrounded by the inspirational Fired Arts in our Splash exhibition, creatives will make a clamshell wax melt and a tinned candle in a fun, structured session led by Nini Montanez from Candle Nerds. It’s a great activity for all the family, including children, parents, and grandparents.
Candle Nerds Experience
Nini is an award-winning wax artist who organizes the successful Swirl & Stroll Candle Nerds workshops at WMODA. This hands-on experience is designed to be creative and safety-conscious for participants aged 8 and up, inspiring them to learn the science and art of candle-making.
A Blend of Science and Art
Candle-making is based on chemistry and physics, calculating wax melting temperatures, measuring scent ratios, and testing wick sizes to ensure a safe, even burn. The artistic side involves choosing fragrances and colors to express individual personalities and creative spirit.
Summer Scents and Colors
Participants will choose from three summer-inspired scents, including tropical fruit, citrus, and fresh ocean breeze. From a selection of candle-safe dyes, they will also explore cheerful seasonal color options to create one clamshell wax melt and one 6-oz tin candle.
Workshop Cost
The cost is $50 per participant in the workshop (minimum age 8 years). Children under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult for age-appropriate support. Non-participating chaperones for up to three children can attend at no extra charge.
The cost of the Summer Scent Lab includes museum admission, and participants will have a short break while the candles are setting to enjoy one of our entertaining scavenger hunts and a refreshing snack.

Cancellations qualify for a full refund up to 48 hours before the event. Within 48 hours of the event, all bookings are final and nonrefundable.
