Mosaic art is experiencing a modern-day revival thanks to Guglielmo Zanette, who directs the Mosaic Young Talent Competition with artists trained at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli the oldest mosaic school in Italy. Under Zanette’s direction, young mosaicists are portraying contemporary icons of art, movies, and music and using unconventional materials in their mosaic portraits alongside traditional Murano glass tesserae.

Mirela’s Micro-Mosaics

Discover the art of micro-mosaic jewelry as Mirela Popovici shares yet another of her many talents! Mirela is well-known to WMODA visitors for her clay-throwing demonstrations on the potter’s wheel and for creating Murano-style lamp-worked glass beads, which can be found in her necklaces and earrings for sale in the WMODA shop. Mirela will showcase yet another exciting artistic style as she shares how to cut thin glass canes into tiny tesserae and inlay them into bracelets and pendants. Guests are also invited to sign up for advance notice of a future micro-mosaic workshop. Don’t miss this chance to experience Mirela’s artistic magic created in real time.
