Alyssa Ligmont works in her studio in North Lauderdale making wheel-thrown ceramics which are functional and sculptural. She uses multiple glazes to produce brightly colored and textured surfaces on her high-fired stoneware body. Her hand-made collection of brie bakers and omelet makers are food, dishwasher and microwave safe. Alyssa enjoys knowing that her functional art can be treasured and enjoyed through everyday use. For her stoneware chip and dip dishes inspired by tidepools at the sea shore, Alyssa combines wheel-throwing, coil and slab building methods. She then carves, stamps and models to embellish them with shells and starfish. She also makes unique and whimsical rabbit sculptures, which are sometimes raku-fired.
