The Art of Giving Back

To celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary, a national movement called “America Gives” is encouraging citizens to embrace July as a season of service. At WMODA, we recognize the vital importance of volunteers to preserving and sharing the beauty and brilliance of the Fired Arts with our community.

The Enduring Power of the Fired Arts

Art is an incredible testament to human ingenuity, and the Fired Arts showcase this spirit perfectly. As we celebrate our nation’s history, we are proud to highlight the American Studio Glass Movement, a revolutionary shift that transformed glassblowing from a factory-based industrial craft into a breathtaking medium for unrestrained artistic expression.

Our Hot Glass Gallery is proud to house one of the largest collections in the country dedicated to Dale Chihuly, the visionary pioneer of this movement. From his vibrant, organic Macchia forms to his intricate Venetian vessels, Chihuly’s boundary-breaking work captures light, movement, and the spirit of nature. Our galleries also celebrate the spectacular work of his mentors, collaborators, and students, including local Florida glass artists who continue to push the medium forward today.

These pieces are more than just magnificent displays of craftsmanship. They are tangible records of human ingenuity, cultural exchange, and artistic evolution. When you support a museum, you help ensure that these magnificent pieces and their stories remain protected and accessible, continuing to spark wonder and artistic inspiration for generations to come.

Ignite Inspiration in Our Galleries at WMODA

A world-class collection like ours relies on a dedicated team to bring it to life for our guests. We invite you to channel the spirit of giving by joining the dedicated team of WMODA volunteers.

Volunteering at WMODA is more than just donating your time; it is a unique opportunity to discover an incredible art collection, experience the museum world from a different perspective, and connect with others who share an appreciation for creativity.

We are actively seeking passionate individuals age 16 and up to help us share the magic of the Fired Arts with our visitors. Complete training is provided; no previous art knowledge is necessary!

We are currently seeking volunteers in the following areas:

  • Gallery Guides: You don’t need a degree in art history to be a fantastic guide, just a welcoming smile and a love for learning! Our Gallery Guides are the friendly faces of the museum, helping guests navigate the exhibits and form their own connections with the artwork.
    • As a bonus this summer, help us in facilitating our “Summer Family Fun” weekend workshops. Assist young guests and their families with hands-on, interactive activities inspired by the Fired Arts and help guide them through our entertaining museum scavenger hunts.
  • Volunteer Photographers & Videographers: If you have an eye for visual storytelling and your own equipment, you can help us capture the beauty of our galleries and special events, expanding our reach far beyond the museum walls.

Help us make this July a true season of service and join us in keeping the Fired Arts burning bright for our community. Visit the WMODA Volunteer Page to complete an inquiry form today!
