Who’s Who in Dania Beach

Team WMODA is playing an important role in the Dania Beach community. Fans of the Fired Arts from all over the country are drawn to our world-class museum, making it #1 of Things to Do in Dania Beach according to TripAdvisor reviews. There are lots of visitor attractions in the city where we SEA IT. LIVE IT. LOVE IT. and they are getting back on track so you can enjoy an amazing day out in Dania Beach.

Gasper Arts Center

After enjoying the outstanding collection of ceramic art at WMODA, you can experience the creative challenges of pottery making at the new Gasper Art Center a few blocks from the museum on Federal Highway. The WMODA team had great fun with their own “Great Pottery Throwdown” last month as we learned how to throw clay pots on the wheel. The Gasper Art Center offers ceramic courses for beginners and advanced students ranging from throwing, sculpting, hand-building, and glazing. Gasper Arts Center.

Summer of Mermaids

The museum’s proximity to the sea has inspired several exhibitions over the years. We have also presented ocean-themed events and our Mermaid Quest scavenger hunt leading up to the city’s “Summer of Mermaids”. See what fun we have had with the Mermaid tail photo opportunity loaned by the 1000 Mermaids Project as well as the recent Mermaid’s Adventure event.

Weather permitting, the Ocean Rescue Alliance and the 1000 Mermaids Project will start installing Broward’s first underwater sculpture garden to help restore the coral reef near Dania Beach. 1000 Mermaids Artificial Reef Project.

Dania Beach Pristine

The WMODA team members are keen supporters of the local environment and have volunteered to keep Dania Beach pristine at beach clean-up events organized by City Commissioner, Joyce Davis. Florida is now fortunate to have the Trash Pirates, a 501c3 organization with a mission to clean up the state’s beaches, reefs, and waterways. They are educating the public about ocean conservation and the consequences of the careless disposal of trash. Local initiatives include the Plastic Pollution Summer Camp Educational Program in Dania Beach.  The Trash Pirates Events.

Hot Glass

Celebrity X was the first cruise line in the US to return to sea with passengers since the pandemic began. The Celebrity Edge sailed from Port Everglades, which is the third busiest cruise port in the world, and it is only 10 minutes drive to WMODA! If you are planning a cruise, make sure you save some time before or after to spend a few hours at WMODA. Some of the Celebrity Cruise Ships offer glassblowing classes onboard, organized by the team at Hollywood Hot Glass, which is located just five minutes drive south of WMODA. After enjoying the museum’s spectacular Chihuly glass collection, you can watch a glass blowing demonstration at HHG or learn how to create your own work of art. Hollywood Hot Glass.

History in Dania Beach

Dania Beach is Broward’s first city and it has a fascinating history, which we are able to explore at WMODA thanks to some archive materials on loan from Terrell and Janet McCombs. They have been very active in preserving documents about the city’s history and there are plans to revive the city’s historical society. Discover how Dania has evolved from the tomato capital of the world to a thriving cultural and historical center. Dania History.

Dania Beach is also home to a unique oral history resource, the Holocaust Document and Education Center. The museum features documents, photographs, and artifacts organized in a manner to convey the message of NEVER AGAIN. South Florida is home to the world’s third largest population of Holocaust survivors and to date HDEC has interviewed 2,400 eyewitnesses to the Holocaust. Building a Community

WMODA is also helping needy people in our community today thanks to initiatives by Luis Montanez, our Logistics Manager. He has spearheaded a canned food drive, a warm clothes drive, and a Holiday toy drive with the museum’s family and friends in conjunction with Steady Revival Ministries. His latest challenge was filling backpacks with essential toiletries for the homeless which were distributed by Work2Live. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see how you can help WMODA build a community.
