Explore the Ardmore design journey and enjoy morning refreshments and an engaging conversation in the Safari for the Soul gallery at WMODA on Wednesday, May 13, at 10:00 am.
Lawson Ricketts, Creative Director of Ngala Trading, will track the “Clay to Cloth” migration of safari animals from hand-sculpted ceramics to vibrant textiles. In 2010, after 25 years of creating collectible ceramic art, the Ardmore Studio in KwaZulu-Natal began translating the lush patterns of African fauna and flora into a dazzling array of furnishing fabrics. Ardmore is now regarded as one of South Africa’s leading luxury design houses, celebrating the country’s cultural heritage.
This event will showcase six classic Ardmore textile designs alongside the museum’s extensive and inspirational collection of ceramic art. Discover how Ardmore’s fabulous storytelling, expressive illustration, and traditional craftsmanship have been translated into dynamic fabrics that bring depth, movement, and narrative to interior spaces, resonating with the rhythms of Africa.
Whether you are a professional interior designer or a home design enthusiast, you can create your very own safari adventure in the museum’s Ardmore Design Shop! Select fabrics by the yard from the pattern books, or take advantage of gorgeous, ready-made designs, including love seats, pillows, and table linens, while the Ngala team provides expert decorating tips along the way. Your safari adventure awaits!
