The Best of Health

Hunter Franqui and the team from SOFLO Health visited WMODA to film another episode of their popular TV show, which airs on WPLG Local 10 every Sunday at 12:30 pm. This was their third visit to shoot the highlights of WMODA, and they were delighted to find WMODA in the “best of health” in our new Hollywood home.  They enjoyed revisiting favorite exhibits, such as the Chihuly collection, which looks quite different in our bright and spacious new Hot Glass Gallery.  They were also impressed with our new exhibitions, including Carved in Glass, Elephant Safari and  Red-Fired Arts are Hot!

The first SOFLO Health show featuring WMODA was filmed at our Dania Beach location in 2020, when we were still wearing face masks due to the pandemic. Hunter had fun with the Balocoloc’s plague doctor mask, despite the challenges of filming an engaging TV show and staying socially distant as required. Their film crew returned in 2022, just a month before we had to close and prepare for our move. Manny Elgarresta, the SOFLO producer, has been following us on social media since our reopening and the team was excited to capture the new WMODA on camera.

The white walls of the Hollywood museum contrast dramatically with the black interiors of the original Dania Beach museum, as can be seen in the photos from the 2020 and 2022 film shoots. Visitors to both venues have been appreciating the new experience, and we are delighted with all the positive feedback we are receiving.

The team from SOFLO Health was no exception. They spent time filming our new interpretation of Chihuly's “Garden of Glass” with his Macchias in full bloom and giant Ikebana flower arrangements. They were amazed by the cold-working skills and artistry of the Ferro Brothers from Murano, who carve blown glass up to five layers deep to create their vibrant designs.

Hunter was fascinated by the process of recreating the ancient Chinese red glazes so revered by British and European potters in the late 19th century. Through trial and error, they experimented to reinvent the lustrous rouge flambé glazes, which are showcased in the Red-Fired Arts Are Hot exhibition. He also enjoyed hearing about all the flappers, vamps and divas from the Roaring Twenties as we celebrate the centennial of the Art Deco movement in our new WMODA gallery.

Hunter and his team were eager to see how we now present our Ardmore collection from South Africa, which they first filmed in 2020. They loved our new Safari for the Soul gallery and all the textiles, table linens and wallpaper, which are available for sale in our Ardmore Design Shop and Elephant Safari exhibition. Thank you, Hunter, Manny and the SOFLO Health camera crew for visiting us and helping us spread the word.

The SOFLO Health episode featuring WMODA aired on Sunday, July 27 at 12:30 pm on WPLG Local 10.
