Our Carved in Glass exhibition, featuring the Ferro Brothers from Murano, has been extended and expanded to include a selection of their latest work. Arthur Wiener, our founder, has become a huge fan of the vibrantly colored carved glass art by Pietro and Riccardo Ferro and has acquired some stunning new pieces for the WMODA collection. The exhibition has been extended until August 30th in the Hot Glass Gallery at WMODA.

Alghe sculptures and new vessels in the Carved in Glass exhibition
The recent shipment from Murano included two monumental sculptural groups inspired by underwater plants. The Alghe sculptures stand over 50 inches tall and are hand-blown and cold-carved with exquisite patterns by Pietro and Riccardo. The challenge of working with these monumental forms is considerable and requires an extraordinary mastery of glass carving.

The new exhibition at WMODA is one of the largest installations of the Ferro Brothers’ art in North America. In the museum’s Hot Glass Gallery, the duo’s carved glass enters an exciting visual dialogue with contemporary masters including Dale Chihuly, Toots Zynsky, and the Venetian virtuosos Pino Signoretto and Lino Tagliapietra.

Sergio Gnesin, the Murano glass expert and guest curator of Carved in Glass, came to the museum to unpack the giant vessels and rearrange the exhibition to accommodate the spectacular new additions. Photos from the unpacking and installation capture a special behind-the-scenes moment.
