The Language of Flowers blooms this Mother’s Day at the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts at our Flowers and Fine China Mother’s Day Tea Party. WMODA welcomes you to an immersive afternoon honoring the special women in our lives through the timeless Victorian traditions of afternoon tea and floriography, the “Language of Flowers.” We invite you to discover how a simple bloom can whisper secrets of love, gratitude, and admiration, as with the carnation, the official flower of Mother’s Day.
Amid the stunning backdrop of our world-class Fired Arts collection, guests will indulge in a sophisticated afternoon tea party featuring delicate finger sandwiches, scones with preserves and cream, dainty sweets, and refreshing tea, all served on exquisite fine-bone china tableware. A champagne toast to mothers everywhere will add extra sparkle to this exclusive occasion.
Around the WMODA galleries, Louise Irvine, our Executive Director and Curator, will highlight how Victorians used “talking bouquets” to communicate hidden sentiments and the meanings behind some of the most beautiful blossoms on display. She will also explore the art of hospitality and showcase the famous British potteries that provided elegant china for afternoon tea.
Discover the tea leaf’s transformative role in global history and culture and how this humble infusion became a cornerstone of social grace, as we celebrate tea not just as a beverage, but as a living bridge between the artistry of the past and the cherished moments of the present.
Reserve your seats early for this celebration of motherhood, art, afternoon tea, and the time-honored symbolism of flowers blossoming exclusively at WMODA.
