You are invited to our International Museum Day Celebration at WMODA on May 17 & 18 to experience “the crucial role of museums in cultural exchange, enriching communities and fostering understanding among people.” Learn about the vital cultural links between Murano glass from Italy and the American Studio Glass Movement.

Family Fun at WMODA

  • Discover the highlights of WMODA during our cellphone audio tour of the galleries. Bring your headphones for the best listening experience.
  • Hunt for dragons lurking in their lairs at WMODA in our entertaining scavenger hunt.
  • Have fun with your kids making Chihuly-inspired Macchia designs out of coffee filters, colored markers and spray starch to participate in our River of Glass and Light installation.

Saturday, May 17

  • 10:00 am - MUSEUM OPENS
  • Immerse yourself in the Magic of Murano for the last weekend of the Carved in Glass exhibition, featuring the cold-working designs of the fabulous Ferro brothers.
  • 1:00 pm - Louise Irvine will present Glass is Hot at WMODA, introducing the different styles of glass art in the museum collection from Chihuly’s monumental blown glass to miniature lamp-worked beads from Murano.
  • 2:00 pm - Chelsea Rousso will introduce her Unity in the Community · Transparency Through Glass installation at WMODA, which inspired 150 people in our community to explore the joys of making glass art.
  • Support the artists and designers in our local community and overseas by purchasing their one-of-a-kind creations in the WMODA Museum Shop.
  • 4:00 pm - MUSEUM CLOSES

Sunday, May 18

  • 10:00 am - MUSEUM OPENS
  • Learn more about beadmaking in Murano from local artist Mirela Popovici, who uses traditional murrine lampworking techniques to make gorgeous glass necklaces and earrings.
  • Meet Diane and Mauro Gennaretti, who commission miniature masterpieces from Murano to design their Italianissimo jewelry collection.
  • Watch local artist Wendy Chercass weave spectacular bracelets inspired by famous works of art using tiny glass beads.
