Pietro and Riccardo Ferro are masters of glass grinding at their workshop in Murano, Italy. They started working in different glass factories at a young age to learn all the traditional techniques. They became experts at cold working with abrasive spinning wheels to decorate the surface of the glass. They cradle each vase for hours, days, and often weeks, painstakingly grinding away to reveal what lies underneath. Their dramatic cuts are sometimes five layers deep. Carving stemware is another specialty of the Ferro brothers, and they produce stunning sets of drinking glasses. The brothers have visited the US to demonstrate their decorating methods in several museums and galleries.
